PETEY WILLIAMS PROFILE |
Petey Williams profile written by Bruce
Bostwick
Petey Williams is most famous for being apart of
TNA. He will be leaving the company to pursue
other goals in the wrestling world as he has a
whole career of him. Looking at it, Petey had
been a two-time X-Division Champion and was most
recently used as Maple Leaf Muscle. He is most
famous for his finishing hold, The Canadian
Destroyer, a flip pile driver that is actually
very impressive to pull off. To understand how
he has come as far as he has, it is time to take
a brief look back at the beginning.
The
first time seeing him, he was apart of Team
Canada along side the likes of Bobby Roode, Eric
Young, and Johnny Devine. Initially, when used
for the World X Cup, he replaced Teddy Hart as
the Team Captain. His first taste of success
came when he entered a gauntlet for the gold for
the X-Division Title defeating The Amazing Red
in the process. The co-holders were Frank
Kazarian and Michael Shane, whom had to use Matt
Bentley due to legal dispute.
He would
hold on to the championship until dropping the
title to AJ Styles in an Ultimate X Match that
included Chris Sabin. That would be the longest
run for the X-Division Championship until
Christopher Daniels broke it the following year.
He would go on to other feuds and would team
with Eric Young in an attempt to win the NWA Tag
Team Titles but was not very successful.
For a period of time, he would compete in
different matches but not for an X-Division
Title opportunity. He later got a chance to face
off with the reigning champion at the time
Christopher Daniels but would not succeed in
obtaining the championship. His next opportunity
came but with a different champion being Senshi
and would not be able to obtain the
championship.
Petey would eventually
become a face of not wanting to burn the
American Flag, which was a very controversial
angle with LAX involved. Despite the face run,
he was not given the championship to see if he
could potentially succeed with it one more time.
He teamed with American's Most Wanted to feud
with LAX and would eventually lead to the end of
one of TNA's most historic teams being AMW with
James Storm turning heel hitting Chris Harris.
Petey would feud with Storm and would be beaten
and then would later try to help Eric Young get
away from Robert Roode but was not successful.
The last notable item he was doing in TNA
was a bodybuilding gimmick nicknaming himself
Maple Leaf Muscle. He would end being one of the
men to win a brief case that was feast
or
fired with Petey getting one briefcase and Scott
Steiner receiving the other. They switched,
which caused Petey to get a World Title match
and Scott the X-Division Title shot. A feud
sparked between the two and Petey would
ultimately lose it to Steiner thus having no
briefcase while Steiner had two.
Steiner
and Williams would eventually team after Petey
earned Scott's respect. It would become a
transformation to Little Petey Pump though he
never came out to that name. Scott gave him back
the X-Division title briefcase and would cash it
in after the match with Lethal and Devine taking
the title for himself. He would hold the
championship until dropping it in a triple
threat match with Sheik Abdul Bashir.
He
was a face at the end of his run and would have
a feud with Steiner not coming out on top. Petey
would team with Eric for the TNA Tag Titles but
would lose in a loser's leave match thus Petey
would actually be gone. He is no longer apart of
the TNA roster.
He had a five-year run
and it has come to an end. The future can be
bright and he may end up on in the WWE in the
future should they decide to pick him up. Petey
had a brief run that probably could have seen a
couple more titles won but who knows what the
future holds for him. He is still young and got
many years barring major injuries. The potential
is there, all he has to do is capitalize on it.
