JOHN KRONUS PROFILE |
John Kronus profile written by Wayne K.
Wilkins
Tag team wrestling has been a big part of the
sport for countless years. Pioneered by the
likes of The Fabulous Freebirds, The Funks, The
Rock "N" Roll Express and The Midnight Express,
tag team wrestling is simply in a league of its
own when it comes to wrestling. Much like the
singles league of the sport, the tag team league
has evolved as time has gone on and many tag
teams have since came and gone. Over in the
independent scene of Extreme Championship
Wrestling, one of the company's most prominent
tag teams were known as The Elimnators, fronted
by Perry Saturn and John Kronus.
The
Eliminators became one of the most well-known
tag teams in America for a variety of reasons.
Saturn and Kronus immediately had chemistry
together as they both achieved their first big
break together as a tag team. When John Kronus
made his debut in professional wrestling, he did
so after meeting Perry Saturn who had been
wrestling a year. Saturn advised Kronus to visit
a wrestling school and he made his debut a year
later.
Kronus made his debut alongside
Saturn as a tag team. Originally, the tag team
wanted to be known as "The Harvesters of Sorrow"
as made evident in Perry Saturn's shoot
interview, but they eventually took on the
moniker of "The Eliminators" and began teaming
together. Although they made their "mainstream"
debut as a team in 1993, Saturn and Kronus
regularly worked together on the independent
scene prior to their arrival in the United
States Wrestling Association and Extreme
Championship Wrestling, so officially and
factually, The Eliminators teamed from 1989
through to 1995.
The eliminators first
achieved their major success after being
discovered by ECW after their work with the
USWA. They subsequently arrived in ECW and
immediately began making an impact. Kronus was
the bigger man of the two in terms of height,
and he sported longer hair, whereas Saturn was
the short, burly and bald one of the two.
Kronus' first major success in ECW was his
victory over the legendary Steiner Brothers and
ECW legend Taz alongside Perry Saturn. It was
this victory that arguably propelled them to tag
team success in the ECW, and the team went on to
become major stars in the ECW capturing the ECW
world tag-team championships on 3 separate
occasions and having feuds with the likes of The
Gangstas, The Pitbulls and Public Enemy.
Kronus subsequently got left in the cold in 1997
as Saturn made the transition to singles
competition in World Championship Wrestling.
Kronus never made it to the "big leagues" and as
such never catapulted himself after Saturn's
departure. The Eliminators were set to reunite
at Shane Douglas' ECW Hardcore Homecoming event
in 2005, however, Saturn was recovering from gun
wounds to the neck suffered after preventing a
rape, and Kronus would eventually team with New
Jack.
Sadly, the Eliminators never had
the chance to reunite afterwards, as Kronus
would untimely pass away at the age of 38 of
heart failure caused by botched knee surgery,
similar to the way that fellow wrestler Chris
Candido had passed away less than 2 years
earlier, ending any potential of catapulting
himself from his new found return to the
mainstream in the 2000's, which would have been
his first major run since the late 1990's.
