BOBBY EATON PROFILE |
Bobby Eaton profile written by Wayne K. Wilkins
Beautiful Bobby Eaton is widely regarded as the
greatest tag-team wrestler of all-time being the
founding father of The Midnight Express as a
tag-team, as well as being involved with every
single one of its conceptions of the past twenty
years. His first success with the team came
alongside Loverboy Dennis Condrey and James E.
Cornette under the banner of Mid-South wrestling
in the early 1980's. Arguably his biggest
success however was with Sweet Stan Lane as the
second incarnation of the Midnight Express
Tag-Team.
The Midnight Express featured
massive success during the 1980's thanks to
their epic rivalry with the Rock N Roll Express,
Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson. Not only did
this feud catapult Mid-South to a national
mainstream level, it also helped define the
high-flying style of wrestling that many
professional wrestling fans are familiar with
today from the likes of Rey Mysterio Jr., Paul
London and AJ Styles.
The Midnight
Express portrayed the heel side of the feud with
bobby often taking the role of mouth-piece. It
was Bobby's in-ring prowess that helped make the
epic feud successful over the past 20 years from
the way he would feed from the audience and act
on their boos, cheers and abuse. He would also
help feed the wrestlers he was working and was
never afraid to make himself look bad in order
to make someone else look good. IT was Eaton's
generosity in the ring that helped make every
opponent he wrestles look like a veteran,; many,
including the likes of Mick Foley, Steve Austin
and The dynamite Kid credit Eaton as being the
easiest guy to work with in the ring, as well as
being the nicest guy out of it.
While his
prowess as a tag-team wrestler was evident, he
never achieved as much success in the singles
division that he was certainly capable of. Since
his debut in 1976, Eaton has claimed many
championships, both tag-team and singles, yet he
has never held a world championship in a major
organization such as World Championship
Wrestling or the National Wrestling Alliance. In
WCW, his biggest success in the singles division
was the Television title where he put on epic
matches with the likes of Steve Austin and
Dustin Rhodes.
Eaton has of course been
in the midst of many battles and feuds
throughout his career with legends of the sport,
the likes of which include Ric Flair, Magnum
T.A, The Fabulous Freebirds, The Steiner
Brothers and Flyin' Brian Pillman. To this day,
Eaton is still prominently wrestling on the
American Independent circuit and can sometimes
be seen tagging alongside his Midnight Express
Partners, both Sweet Stan and Loverboy Dennis as
well as his son.
In my personal opinion,
Beautiful Bobby is one of the most under-rated
professional wrestlers of all time. He was a
total package in terms of image, talent and
charisma, yet it seems he got lost in the rabble
as wrestling slowly evolved from the traditional
style into sports entertainment. If you as a
wrestling fan are looking for the ultimate
wrestling experience, you need not look any
further than a Beautiful Bobby match-up,
especially circa 1985 1992.
Beautiful
Bobby Eaton The legend lives on!
