BARRY DARSOW PROFILE |
Barry Darsow profile written by Wayne K. Wilkins
Demolition have been a formidable force in
professional wrestling and one of the most
recognizable tag-teams in the history of the
sport ever since their first inception as the
permanent duo in the year of 1987 for the World
Wrestling Federation. Since then, both Ax and
Smash together have held the WWF world tag-team
championships on three separate occasions, as
well as being the longest reigning tag-team
championships in the company's history, which in
its entirety spans over 50 years.
To say
the least, Demolition have left their mark on
the professional wrestling history and are
sure-fire future hall of famers in their own
right. Like many tag-teams of that era,
Demolition was made up of two different
performers with two very different styles of
wrestling. Ax was the Powerhouse of the group;
usually the man to man-handle the opponents.
Smash on the other hand was the much more agile
member of the group, responsible for dishing out
the punishment, as well as taking it himself to
get the crowd behind him before making the
hot-tag to Ax.
Of course, Ax was not a
small man himself. Darsow has a history of being
a big man in the sport of professional wrestling
achieving the most of his success as the big
Smash of Demolition. However, Barry has also
wrestled under other names such as Repo Man in
the WWF, as well as going by his real-name in
the World Championship Wrestling, unfortunately,
as a jobber, putting over other wrestlers at his
own expense.
Of course, Darsow is a
legitimate talent in his own right and after
years of success, and years away from the ring
full-time, he reunited recently with his
long-term friend and tag-team partner Ax as
Demolition and are currently touring the
American Independent circuit as a team for the
first time in 16 years.
To say the least,
Barry Darsow, who will be turning 50 in this
year of 2009, is one of the most recognized
tag-team wrestlers of all-time and is a man
doused in history, talent and legacy. He will
without a doubt be remembered for his tag-team
prowess, and in my opinion is a sure-fire hall
of famer in the future along with Ax as
Demolition.
Of course, this is mere
speculation on my part. Demolition left a mark
in the WWF and when they left, they left a void
which has since never been filled. They are a
unique tag-team, and without a doubt will
continue to leave their legacy in the world of
professional wrestling until the day they
retire.
Barry Darsow, Demolition Smash,
whatever you want to call him this man is one of
the best and most recognizable athletes in
wrestling of the 1980's and nobody can deny
that.
