Samoa Joe Title History
Samoa Joe is known on a national platform as a TNA wrestler. The nickname he had was The Samoan Submission Machine when he first arrived four years ago. The career in TNA has seen him hold just about every title he could possibly hold except now the newly created Legends Title. He is one of three guys to have held all three titles. Prior to that
His run in TNA would push him as a guy who could not be pinned or be forced to submit. Joe would be facing off with X-Division opponents and would be billed as a heel though that can be argued with him getting cheered a bit. Joe would be apart of a tournament to earn a right to challenge for the X-Division Championship by winning the Super X Cup against the X-Division Champion Christopher Daniels. It would be a triple threat match seeing AJ Styles pinning the champion and Joe not getting the gold right away. Joe would later get the championship at Turning Point defeating AJ Styles but would lose it without getting pinned in an Ultimate X match to Christopher Daniels. He regained the title but would be slowly moved out of the X-Division and would face off with Sabu retaining the gold.
Joe would lose the title to championship to Senshi in a triple threat match thus not getting pinned. Around this time, Joe was portrayed more as a face against heavyweights like Scott Steiner for example. His undefeated streak would come to a close, as he would be defeated in a major match with Kurt Angle. Looking further, he defeated even then champion Jeff Jarrett in a non-title match. Kurt would beat Joe in an Iron Man Match to become number one contender while Joe did not get the chance at the championship.
The champion was Christian Cage and Joe would have a chance at him but would not get the title. His next opportunity came at King of the Mountain coming up short to Kurt Angle for the vacant TNA Title, as the NWA Title was no longer apart of TNA. Joe would win his last X-Division Title and would team with Angle as he was the TNA World Champion against Team 3D in a winner take all situation with Joe getting the pinfall. He held the X-Division and Tag Titles at the same time.
In what would be history, Samoa Joe held the tag titles by himself and would lose both belts to Kurt Angle, whom held the IWGP third title and TNA World Title due to interference from his then wife Karen Angle. At Bound for Glory, Joe would force Christian Cage to submit thus ending his streak of not being pinned or forced to submit.
A famous storyline was coming out that used a rumor that Samoa Joe was unhappy with TNA even though he did resign with the company. Every week, he would come out and proclaim how unhappy he was when it comes to his pay and how superstars were getting special treatment. Also, he wanted a new contract and an opportunity at the TNA World Title without getting screwed over. It would lead to some confrontations with Matt Morgan and would team with Christian Cage and Kevin Nash to take down the Angle Alliance.
Joe would finally be successful in getting the TNA Title by defeating Kurt Angle at Lockdown. He would hold off various challengers such as the likes of Scott Steiner, a rematch with Kurt Angle, Kaz, and Booker T. He began a feud with Sting under a storyline of respect. Sting would get the championship from Joe and would not get it back. He is apart of a group called “The Frontline” seeing how they are challenging the “Main Event Mafia” for total domination of TNA.
Samoa Joe still has more to accomplish and could see himself in another promotion if he desires or goes on to try to become a potential great in TNA. He does have his fans and if he avoids serious injuries, he could go very far.
