Jeff Hardy Title History
What does it take to be a WWE Superstar? I think Jeff Hardy answers that question for us, with each one of his matches. He gives us 110% of his heart and body, every time he steps into the squared circle. But who is the enigma known as Jeff Hardy.
Forced to overcome tragedy at a very young age with the loss of his mother, Ruby Moore Hardy due to brain cancer. He grew up with his father, Gilbert, and his older brother Matt in North Carolina. Matt and Jeff both fell in love with wrestling early in life and were determined to beat the odds and become superstars.
Along side of Matt, they transformed their ordinary trampoline into a wrestling ring using garden hose for ropes. With their friends they imitated their favorite wrestlers moves, and when the opportunity came they took their trampoline to the local fairgrounds.
On May 25, 1994 at the age of sixteen, Jeff made his WWE debut in Erie, Pennsylvania by wrestling the 1-2-3 Kid. He continued to be a jobber until 1998, when he received his WWE contract.
Together with his brother Matt, they entertained the world with their high flying maneuvers and great team work. The Hardy Boyz captured their first titles when they won the WWE Tag Team Championships by defeating the Acolytes on June 29, 1999.
After dropping the titles back to the Acolytes, the Hardy’s went on to feud with Edge and Christian. Their matches were nothing but spectacular. The Hardy’s and Edge and Christian cemented their spot in professional wrestling history on October 17, 1999 at the No Mercy Pay Per View. They had the first ever tag team ladder match that stole the show and earned them all a standing ovation, not only from the fans, but from the guys in the locker room.
A few months later The Hardy’s made history again by competing in the first ever tag team table match. Jeff won the match by putting Buh Buh Ray Dudley through a table with a Swanton Bomb from the top of the balcony at Madison Square Garden.
The Hardy Boyz, The Dudley’s, and Edge, and Christian continued to thrill the fans with awesome matches that culminated at Wrestlemania 2000 with a Triangle Ladder match. The match went on to be the Pro Wrestling Illustrated match of the year.
Jeff Hardy was sadly released from the WWE on April 22, 2003 for his drug use, refusal to go to rehab to get help, and for not showing up to shows that he was scheduled to be on.
On May 24, 2003 Jeff appeared on an Omega show, wrestling under his old gimmick from the trampoline days as Willow The Wisp. He also appeared on the Ring Of Honor show, Death Before Dishonor, before taking a year off to get his life back on track.
Total Nonstop Action was Hardy’s next stop, when he shocked the wrestling world on June 23, 2004 by wrestling the Phenomenal AJ Styles. In September he lost to NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett, but a month later he won a tournament to earn another shot at Jarrett’s gold, which he failed to wrestle away from the crafty veteran. In December 2005 Jeff didn’t show up for the Turning Point Pay Per View and was suspended from TNA for the second time.
August 2006 saw the reemergence of the high flying Jeff Hardy in the WWE. He defeated then WWE champ Edge by disqualification on August 21. Hardy went on to win the Intercontinental Championship from Johnny Nitro a couple of months later. Their feud was intense and resulted in them trading the IC Title back and forth.
November 21, 2006 saw the reformation of Team Xtreme when Jeff teamed up with his brother Matt for the first time in almost five years. Seeing them beat the Full Blooded Italians was poetry in motion. On April 2, 2007 The Hardy’s eliminated Lance Cade and Trevor Murdock in a ten team battle royal to win the Tag Team Titles for the sixth time. They lost them to Cade and Murdock on June 4, 2007.
The Rainbow-Haired Warrior won his fourth Intercontinental Championship by beating the Samoan Bulldozer Umaga on September 3, 2007.
March 11, 2008 Jeff was suspended from the company for sixty days yet again for a violation of the substance abuse and drug testing policy. A few days later his house burned to the ground causing the death of his dog. Faulty wiring was the source of the fire.
May 12, 2008 Jeff returned by pinning Umaga to reunite their feud. At the One Night Stand Pay Per View Jeff beat Umaga again in a falls count anywhere match, after he dove off of a semi truck with a Swanton Bomb onto the concrete below.
So what is next for the charismatic Jeff Hardy? I think that he could be a future world champion, if he can keep himself from getting suspended or fired. I guess we will have to wait and see what this daredevil will do next.
