Though terms
of Rob Van Dam's contract have not been disclosed, he has
made it clear he's not interested in working a full-time
schedule. There is said to much grumbling among longtime
wrestlers as they... |
It's being speculated that WWE and Ultimate Warrior may have
come to an agreement on him joining this year's Hall of Fame
class as he appeared in the opening montage before Raw,
replacing Ric Flair. |

 Hulk
Hogan is perhaps the biggest name in all of
wrestling. Without him, would it have ever gotten
into the mainstream? It may be debatable but his
impact is felt without any question. He is a
six-time WWE Champion, six-time WCW Champion though
a seven-time WCW Champion unofficially, a WWE Tag
Team Champion with Edge, and had won in the
tournament in New Japan called the IWGP tournament
in 1983. WWWF: He would come in as
a heel being managed by Fred Blassie. He had faced
some competition but would later try to win the
championship off of Bob Backlund and not being very
successful at obtaining the gold in the first place.
The most memorable feud he had was with Andre the
Giant and this would happen years later though most
people may not have been aware of it at the time.
They had a feud and it would end up happening at
Shea Stadium with Andre coming out on top but Hogan
came out looking strong. Why he left was because of
a dispute over the idea of the part of a Rocky film
and Vince McMahon Sr. did not wish for him to do the
film as he was going to be sent to the NWA.
WWF: He came in this time as a face and
would eventually become the face of the company. His
first run came at defeating The Iron Sheik for the
title holding it for over four years, a modern
record that should never be broken. The run would go
on until being defeated by Andre the Giant. It was
part of the feud with Ted Dibiase since he was
trying to get the title and couldn't win it on his
own. His next would come at defeating Randy Savage,
WrestleMania 4 tournament winner and champion. Hogan
would lose the gold to The Ultimate Warrior. The
next run would come at defeating Sgt. Slaughter and
would lose the title to a newcomer being The
Undertaker. His fourth run was very short, as he
would get it from The Undertaker only for it to be
vacated.

Disc 1
- YOUR hosts are Matt Striker (tho does an AWESOME Savage impression) and Maria (who provides the cleavage).
-We get a history of Angelo Poffo, Randy's father, who held the world sit-up record. Savage played minor league baseball before joining his dad's outlaw ICW wrestling promotion to wage a territory war against Jerry Jarrett. Quickly, we segue into his WWE debut, leading to...
Randy Savage vs. Rick McGraw
This is Savage's WWF debut in July 1985. He is announced as "wrestling's number one free agent" and jaws with the crowd and Howard Finkle on his way to the ring, still working the Memphis heel act. McGraw was actually mentioned in Bret Hart's autobiography for swallowing an amazing amount of drugs every night and passing out face-first in his dinner place. Lovely. After fighting over a lockup, Savage bails to the outside and gets nailed with a beer. McGraw wants to keep going, so Savage spits at him and stalls some more with posing. Finally, we get going again as Randy grabs an armbar (using the hair of course) and yells at Mean Gene, who is on announcing duty. McGraw tries to bring Savage down with a headscissors, but gets dropped on the top rope and takes a sleeper.
McGraw manages to comeback with an airplane spin into a Samoan drop but Savage is in the ropes. Monkey flip hits and McGraw gets a backslide for two, so Savage takes a powder. Savage comes back in and gets a snapmare followed by an elbow drop for two. Suplex gets another two count. McGraw ducks an elbow, but another one sends him to the outside, where Savage follows with a double axe handle from the top rope. That one got the crowd buzzing. McGraw tries to get back in, but Randy suplexes him on the floor, which has Gene and Gorilla calling for a disqualification. McGraw finally fights his way in and Randy misses a butt splash on the ropes, allowing McGraw to send him upside down into the corner. McGraw stomps away but eventually gets caught with a clothesline, enabling Savage to hit the flying elbow for the win.
Winner: Randy Savage
-Savage had a good deal of heat already, but the match had too much stalling and too many dead spots to be anything better than average. *3/4
-Striker and Maria recap the manager bidding war for Savage (an angle they would repeat with Bam Bam Bigelow) before Randy picks Miss Elizabeth, thus beginning my 20 year love affair with a manager. Interestingly enough, the original character of Elizabeth was a conniving bitch who was a shrewd businesswoman, but she fit into the mold of a sweet, innocent woman so well that they went that route instead.
